Locus classicus according to protologue	Patria et distributio: Terricola, apud Bucay, Prov. Guayaquil, Ecuador occidenalis, 400 m. s. m. [german version:] Heimat und Verbreitung: Terrestrisch, 5 km östl. Bucay, 400 m, auf dem Weg von Guayaquil zur Carretera Panamericana (West-Ekuador), in Gesellschaft von Tillandsia cyanea.

According to protologue it is a terrestrial. The IUCN Red List cites in the species dataset in chapter «Habitat and Ecology» that ist is a terrestrial, whereas it is said to be an epiphytic in the «Assessment Information». Here we follow the protologue data.
